This lesson contains an ESSAY TOPIC assignment.
Ilvermorny, like Hogwarts, has creatures that represent each house for the school. However, while Hogwarts uses rather mundane animals, Ilvermorny uses magical creatures. Today I’d like to talk to you about the four creatures that represent our houses: the Thunderbird, the Pukwudgie, the Horned Serpent, and the Wampus.
Thunderbirds, to start with, are closely related to phoenixes. However, they do not possess the ability to regenerate or healing properties like their cousins. They possess the power to create storms, especially when sensing danger. A thunderbird’s feathers often change color, primarily when using their ability to change the weather. Their feathers will mirror the colors and patterns of the clouds, rain, and lightning. One thing they do share in common with phoenixes is that they have the ability to carry heavy loads. Thunderbirds also grow to be at least three times the size of phoenixes and can easily carry two or three wizards on their backs. These birds are native to North America, primarily in the state of Arizona. Despite it’s XXXX classification in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, MACUSA has deemed the thunderbird as a protected species. They are only a handful of these magnificent creatures left, and wizards in the United States go to great lengths to protect their habitats and to give them their space. No-maj repelling charms are often placed around known habitats to drive them away as well. This is for both the thunderbirds’ protection as well as the protection of the No-maj population.
There is not much that is known at this time about horned serpents. These magical snakes were found in larger numbers back when Ilvermorny was first founded. Since then, the horned serpent had been hunted to near extinction for its uses as potion ingredients and for wand cores. They have recently started to make a comeback, thankfully. Horned serpents are named thus for the horns they sport atop their heads. There are many different types of subspecies of horned serpents, one of the most common ones in the United States also sports a gem on its forehead. The jewel is said to grant the holder the power of invisibility and flight, which also accounts for part of the reason they were hunted so aggressively in the past. There have been conflicting reports of whether it truly grants these powers, but most reports agree that if the horned serpent’s gem does grant invisibility and flight, it is not reliable and fades in and out.
The pukwudgie is a curious magical creature, indeed. They are distantly related to goblins, and their similarity to houselves is notable as well. They stand at about two or three feet tall, with gray skin and long ears. Comparable to their goblin cousins, pukwudgies possess their own brand of magic and their own knowledge of weapon making. They possess the magic to create fires and to disappear and reappear at will. Pukwudgies can be both helpful and tricksters, but once they are befriended, they are your friend for life. Similarly, if a pukwudgie feels they owe a human a debt, they feel they are bound to that human until the debt is repaid. Speaking of their lifespans, we are not entirely sure how long they live. Pukwudgies serve in the Ilvermorny castle in a similar capacity as the houselves at Hogwarts, and it’s said that the Pukwudgie named William that resides here is the same pukwudgie that the founder Isolt Sayre befriended, though he will not admit it.
The last magical creature to represent an Ilvermorny house is the wampus cat, which is also just known as wampus. The wampus is almost indistinguishable in looks from the non-magical mountain lion and inhabits the same areas, primarily in the Appalachian Mountains here in the United States. The wizarding community believes the wampus looks similar to protect itself from the no-maj community, which often avoids encounters with the mountain lion, and to protect itself from the magical community, which sometimes hunts it down to collect its hair. Wampus hair is used as a wand core here in the United States, similar to the unicorn hair used in the United Kingdom. However, unlike its mundane counterpart, the wampus can run on its hind legs, outrun arrows, and it possesses the ability to use hypnotic magic and legilimency if it makes eye contact with its prey.
All four creatures embody different traits that each of the Ilvermorny houses favor, just as the mundane creatures used for the houses at Hogwarts embody different traits that each house favors. Whether the it is better to use magical creatures or mundane creatures to represent different traits of humans is debatable, but it’s plain to see that both schools’ founders created houses that together had a wide enough range of traits and personalities that almost all of their students feel like they belong.
Your assignment today includes an essay topic. You are tasked with creating your own wizarding school and must split its students into houses. Tell us how many houses you would have, what traits each house's students would possess, what mundane/magical creatures would represent those houses, and why. Please keep your answers between 2-5 paragraphs. Please post your answers here behind spoiler tags (if you do not know how to use spoiler tags, please let me know and I'd be happy to help you).
The essay question will be graded out of a maximum of 20 House Points.
This assignment is due by August 5th at 11:59PM.
River Alcott, A4: House Mascots
River chewed on her sugar quill as she thought about how she would arrange students in her own school. She started writing, picking some of her most favourite animals:
Sorting students into houses requires standing inside a fountain. The fountain will shoot out light which represents one of the four houses.
Erumpent House: Students in the Erumpent house are generally calm, but will not tolerate bullying either to themselves or others. Like their explosive animal, they are respected by others and have the potential to hold great power. Yet, they are also prone to be shy and prefer to not have to use their powers. Most would rather work out a peaceful resolution. They are also very studious and responsible. Their house colour is purple.
Dragon House: Represented by the colour green: students sorted into the Dragon house tend to be creative, courageous, ambitious, wise, passionate, but some maybe prone to being egotistical. Many dragon students are energetic. Many students have a love for the earth.
Unicorn House: Students in the Unicorn house tend to be very trusting in others. They possess an innocence about them and are kind, gentle spirits. They can be highly emotionally charged and intuitive to other’s feelings. Unicorn house tends to produce a lot of healers. House colour is white.
Phoenix House: Students in the Phoenix house are fiery, possessing a wild energy about them. They tend to have a zest for life. These students tend to be able to reinvent themselves. They embrace change. Refusing to give up, these tenacious students have the strength and determination to become whatever they wish to be. Crimson is the colour of the phoenix house.
Témiscamingue
This school is found in northern Quebec in Canada. It has seven houses, loosely based on the Seven Sacred Teachings of the Indigenous Peoples in the country. While the animals themselves are what would be considered mundane, the school reinforces the belief that they are nonetheless highly spiritual.
Aiglemort This house is represented by the Eagle and is emblematic of love. Many students that are drawn to this house end up becoming healers.
Ectueux Respect is the core of this house, as represented by the majestic Buffalo. Students in this house are highly in tune with the natural world around them and often are well-versed in magizoology.
Ourageux The Bear is the symbol of this house, representing courage. Bravery and daring are highly prized in Ourageux, resulting in a high number of wizards trained to protect and police the magical community.
Plongeoté This house values honesty, and is represented by the Loon. Many of the journalists covering the magical world came from Plongeoté.
Castoresse Wisdom rules this house, as symbolized in the noble Beaver. Students in this house are dedicated to life-long learning and often gravitate to roles of teaching and training.
Chasseaux The Wolf represents humility for this house. Many government officials in the magical community are culled from Chasseaux, borne from a desire to put others before themselves.
Tortugae This house is represented by the Turtle and embodies truth. Students in this house pursue knowledge and science above all else and often are on the cutting edge of magical exploration and research.

Wolf House: Students from the wolf house are strong team players. Very much like in a pack all of the students work hard to achieve a goal together. They are very loyal to their fellow students but also prefer some alone time. They are loyal, cunning and good thinkers. Most sutdents from the wolf house turn out be Aurors since are team players and strategic. Their main color is a dark grey.
Griffin House: Students from the Griffin house have a royal aura to them. Most of the students are purebloods and wealthy. Which is represented in their house color purple. Students from the Griffin house are smart and use others weaknesses to their advantage. They are very aroggant Since the Griffin is a mix of different animal together this is also shown in their student choice. Most of the students may be purebloods but there is also a fair share of half-bloods and muggles. Like it´s mascot the griffin house is the most diverse one.
Ram House: Students fron the Ram house tend to be stubborn and at first difficult to work with. But their stubborness brings out the most excellent magical qualities to light. Students from the Ram house are excellent in Charms. Better than any other house. Their ambition and stubborness makes them incredible duelists. Their color is gold.
Stag House: The Stag House is the oldest of the four houses. It´s key traits are pride and justice. The house itself encourages it´s students to embrace who they are and not be defined by society. The strongwilled and just are the ones that are choosen into the stag house. Justice is their key aspect. Most students of the Stag house are masters in DADA and most of them graduate to become Aurors. Their color is silver. Zachary Thane Underwood, Hogwarts

The wizarding school will have four houses, each will be represented by a sea animal since the school is located near the coast. The houses are: House of the Dolphin, House of the Shark, House of the Turtle, and House of the Octopus. Each house will chose their students based on their personalities, strengths, and weaknesses.
Dolphin House students tend to be more friendly, they like socializing and being in groups. They are mostly calm and are very protective of their friends, family, and even others outside their circle. They like helping and create strong bonds with their loved ones. Also these students are highly intelligent and are capable of wondrous things. Many dolphins are good professors, healers, or artists. The colors of the Dolphin house are white and grey.
The students of the Shark House sometimes like to be by themselves and seek solitude but they too can be social to a lesser degree than other houses. They are brave and could be quite aggressive, they learn mostly by observation but can be very intense into getting what they want. The sharks tend to be described by many as dramatics and like to feel as they are in charge. Sharks tend to stand out in sports, dueling, and arts. The shark house colors are white and blue.
The Turtle House students are persistent, loyal, and wise. Their perseverance for learning is far greater than any other house and would go to the end of the world in order to achieve their goal. They are very patient and passive but if they feel threatened can show big surprises so they are not to be taken lightly. Turtle house tend to go for government positions, writing, reporters, or positions that require hard work of the mind. Turtle house colors are white and green.
Octopus house students are very clever, protective, and very sneaky. They are playful and like to stay in the dark and don't stand out too much but even when they try its normal for them to stood out from the rest since they are unique, creative, and can adapt to change easily. They tend to see things in many different ways and not just one and that is what makes them so special. Many octopus students go for careers as aurors, curse breakers, and any challenging position. The Octopus house colors are white and orange.
Lernaean Academy of Wizardry
At the Lernaean Academy of Wizardry (or LAW) located in Greece, students are sorted into three classifications. All three classes (houses) are based on sea-related famous mythical creatures. The sorting ceremony begins with a student on their back in a triangular pool. Each corner is marked by fountain, a statue of creature spitting out water. A magical water vortex then spins them and then the student will start floating to one of the three corners/statues. As soon the student hit the water coming out of the statue, they are sorted into that class.
The students that are sorted into the Leviathan class are often natural-born leaders and self-motivated to be the best at what they do. Like the creature, the students of Leviathan are pretty much the top of the food chain. At LAW, almost all of the top 10% in performance comes from this class, whether on academics or extracurricular. Some characteristics of a Leviathan student may include being ambitious and driven, focused, arrogant, and/or smart. They will do whatever it takes to get what they want and really don't accept limitations. The Leviathans, as a whole, pretty much dominate the school in all aspects and other classes often refer to them as the Elite. The Leviathan is depicted as a crocodile and blue whale hybrid. Their colors are blue and silver.
The Hydra class is based on the Hydra of Lerna (or Lernaean Hydra), a sea-serpent with many heads. Their colors are red and black. The students of Hydra aren't as ambitious or power-hungry as those of Leviathan. However, they are known to be strong-willed and not easily defeated. Hydra students are very spirited and aren't quitters. They don't get discouraged easily and will never back down in any fight. Even when fallen, they get back up even stronger. They don't care about being the best, but focus more on doing their best. While the students of Leviathan are more self-serving, students of Hydra pride themselves on being team players and are often very helpful and supportive of others. Hydra class is much more social and outgoing than the other two classes. They are known for their school social events (and parties).
Kraken class' mascot is depicted as a giant squid-like creature. The class colors are brown and gold. Kraken students may not excel at any one thing like Leviathan, but they are much more well-rounded in that they often do many things. Students of Kraken are often characterized by their ability to multi-task as well as their adaptability. They are very easy-going and can easily adapt to change. Kraken students aren't as social as Hydra or as excellent as Leviathan, but they are always there. Students of the Kraken class are dependable. They are also more timid and modest. They rather blend in than be in the spotlight.
Carlos stared on his paper and breathed a sigh. Writing essays wasn't his thing at all, he was more of a practical guy. Nonetheless he wanted to do his best of course, thought it over for a couple of minutes and began to write:
Carlos Ortega, Ilvermorny
The Wizarding School I want to tell you about is hidden high up in the German Alps or more precisely in the "Wettersteingebirge". It's name is simply "Hulda's House" which possibly doesn't sound like much but, like at every Magical School, there's a lot going on of course. Students can be sorted into one of three houses, each of them named after a legendary creature from German mythology. The sorting ceremony is a bit dfferent as well. In the big courtyard of the school there's a statue for each of the house mascots with a tree standing behind it like a guardian (Lindworm/lime tree, Neck/willow and Wolpertinger/beech) and a larger statue right across them. This statue is showing "Frau Holle" whom most people know as a fairytale from the Brother's Grimm but whose legend actually dates back to ancient Germanic times, making her a powerful mother goddess. Behind her a massive old oak tree is standing.
For the sorting ceremony the student is placed in the middle of the courtyard and with that right between the four statues. Lindworm, Neck and Wolpertinger are motionless, Frau Holle however will slowly turn towards the matching house and point with a finger on it as well. The houses/mascots are usually connected with the following traits:
Lindworm: This house is usually seen as the house for the brave and the fighters but also for those that appear a bit reckless at times. A lindworm protects the things that it loves (people, property, ideals) not matter the cost and this is what can be seen in a lot of the Lindworm students as well.
Neck: Neck's are water spirits, often depicted as beautiful men or women. Like its mascot the House of the Neck is the place for everyone drawn to beauty, what doesn't mean that only "pretty" people are allowed to join. Beauty can have many facets (beauty of nature, beauty of poetry, beauty of spells, calming music, a beautiful dance to make people forget their sorrows for a while...list goes on) and this is what this house is about. Generally this house has many so-called daydreamers in it so teaching them might be a challenge at times.
Wolpertinger: The house of the legendary hybrid creature of Bavaria. Its students are depicted as being intelligent, vigilant and quick but it's also a fact that "class clowns" and tricksters are usually sorted into this house what makes pranks coming from a Wolpertinger much more likely than from other parts of the school.
There's one big difference between other Magical schools. Even though the students are sorted into their houses, the school emphasizes loyalty and solidarity between the Lindworms, Necks and Wolpertingers much more than anywhere else. All houses have their strengths but also their weaknesses (the often kamikaze-like recklessnes of Lindworm, the daydreaming of the Necks [not a blessing if you are living 2,5kilometers high up the mountains, believe me] and the lack of seriousness and sincerity of the Wolpertingers and only if everyone is taking care of each other the whole pack has a chance to grow, survive and graduate.

crest made by me
This school is located in Central Europe, hidden well somewhere in the Austrian Alps. Every young witch or wizard can visit this school if they live in a country with a connection to the Alps. The name is taken from the old roman name for the region. The house mascots are native alpine animals. Students are sorted into four houses by an enchanted bell, which needs to be pulled. It then will chime and one of the four nearby animal statues will start to glow. If more than one starts to glow, the house is decided by the biggest and brightest glow.
House of the bat: This house treasures selfless and sensitive people who are open for different thoughts and beliefs. Though they tend to keep to themselves, they are socially talented. One can find people who have strong ties with their families and friends here. Their natural perceptiveness makes them usually good at divination. Students of the bat house are the most sincere.
House of the magpie: The clever and stealthy magpie students are good strategists. They value their life but believe in taking risks when necessary. They are creative with words and don't care much about what others say or think about them. Magpie students strive to be prestigious. Aside from that, these students are known for their quick wit and are always in for a joke.
House of the mouflon: Like their house mascot, these students are persistent and hard-working. They are passionate and fierce and can be really stubborn. Mouflon students enjoy adventures and exploring and are very reliable, though they tend to be independent and do things on their own. They are quite confident and often appear very dignified.
House of the salamander: The salamander students are naturally good planners as they make sure every detail is correct. Their way of work is always precise. They have a high standard of morals and value honour. Being good listeners, they are also able to keep secrets very well. These students do have a connection to nature and tend to get along amazing with animals, both magic and mundane. They embrace change in their lives and think of it as a new opportunity.
Nathaniel loved the Care of Magical Creatures classes back at Hogwarts. He had a certain way with animals, despite not owning any pets or familiars himself. He had a feeling that the Magizoology classes would be good here. Until the Professor spoke. Nathaniel frowned at the Professors words: Hogwarts definitely did not use "mundane animals" to represent the houses. He couldn't help but remember something he'd read before: "The normal and the everyday are often amazingly unstoppable, and what is unimaginable is the cessation of them."
Nathaniel Pitt, Hogwarts
Appletreewick School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The British school would be built within the Yorkshire moors, protected by various charms from Muggles, similarly to other magical schools. It would make use of the nearby Quidditch Stadium throughout the school year and the school might maintain a friendly rivalry with Hogwarts. This school would be divided into three houses rather than four, based on classic symbols of the area.
Roses Based on White Roses, this house represents purity and new beginnings. Students in this house are inherently good, with great potential to grow. They love to learn and build upon their knowledge to master subjects. Roses are often known for being very beautiful. The students in this house are not to be underestimated. Though they can sometimes be a little naive, remember that every rose has its thorn! They are usually sociable students and make excellent public speakers. Following their education, many Roses have been known to take up work in the Ministry of Magic or as teachers themselves!
Terriers Based on Yorkshire Terrier dogs, this house represents loyalty and guidance. Students in this house make wonderful friends who offer sound advice and are loyal to those they love. They tend be fun-loving, enjoy spending time outdoors and prefer a more practical approach to their education. They are team-players and as such, Terriers often make fantastic Quidditch players.
Grindylows Based on the water demons found at the bottom of British lakes, this house represents mystery and intelligence. They tend to make powerful witches and wizards and are more likely to practice dark magic than the other houses. Like Slytherin at Hogwarts, those in this house are far more likely to be from pure blood families. Students in this house are less sociable than the other houses and can be competitive. They are often perfectionists and academics, therefore Grindylows are known for achieving high marks in their O.W.L. tests.
To be sorted into their house, prospective students must place the palm of their left hand flat against a stone plate at the head of the schools Hall. When they remove their hand, the face of the round stone will then transform into the house symbol of which they have been placed and they can join the table with the other students of their house.
Zala listened to the Professor's instructions and doodled on her parchment sheet absentmindedly. By the time the students were given their task she had drawn a few connected circles. She stared at the circles for a moment when an idea came to her. Quickly she scribbled down her ideas.
Zala Tulasi - 4A
My school is one which assigns their students to one of three faculties. Each faculty represents one of the realms Sky, Land, and Sea and their individual traits. These three each have their own way of handling tests, homework and approach of the various subjects. Due to the varied takes on how to educate and learn two standardized tests are taken, one in the third year and one in the 6th. The test scores are combined with overall progress to determine if a student has to retake a year or can continue on towards the next or graduate from the school. These tests take place in February to give students the opportunity to resit up to three subjects at the start of May.
The Sky faculty, or Owl house, represents thought, communication and spirituality. Students of the Sky tend to excel in language studies, Arithmancy, History, Divination and Astronomy. The owl is seen as a wise bird and one who passes on their knowledge without discrimination. Through discussion and debate the knowledge in each discipline is tested and students are often asked to 'teach' a lesson themselves. Students are required to do research in the library and encouraged to ask for guidance. The professors teaching them take on that role and supervise the teens. As the teens grow older and more experienced they must challenge themselves more in order to pass their classes.
The Land faculty, or Ox house, is build on solidity and structure. Many may find they prefer physical work and gravitate towards that which makes use of their hands. Students of the Land tend to excel in Herbology, Magizoology, Potions and sports. The ox is seen as a large herd animal which continuously works hard. Through a set of instructions and group lessons the students get results. They change their ideas into a reality and improve on them. Many will find themselves with dirt under their fingernails and scrapes on their skin. Professors teaching at the Ox house prefer surprise tests where students follow a set of instructions to achieve a specific result. The students thus have to practice spells and techniques in their spare time to be sufficiently prepared.
The Sea faculty, or Orca house, is one with many faces. Water is both solid and liquid, hard and soft, nurturing and destructive. Where the Sky is mentality and the Land physicality the Sea has both. Students of the Sea favor the practical use of magic and see much use of their wands and wit. The Orca lives in small pods and is known to be a very social creature. At the same time they are vicious hunters who kill plenty. This duality is continued in the nature of the students lessons. Through a combination of literature studies and practical lessons they learn everything they need. Due to offering both ways of study the house has grown to be the largest among the three.
Owl, Ox and Orca each have their own approach and therefore in lessons no more than 2 houses mix. Students from the Ox and the Owl rarely come together during school hours. This has been countered by encouraging them to enjoy time in various clubs and excursions. The upper years are given the freedom to choose where they dorm within the castle as opposed to the faculty dorms the lower years stay in. Both breakfast and dinner are taken in a Grand Hall where no distinction is made between houses. Students may sit where and with whom they like. There are no assigned colors apart from a small circular pin which must be worn visibly on their clothing. This circular pin has either ox horns, owl wings or an orca tail and dorsal fin.

School:
Composed of five houses represented by mythological creatures. A student stands barefoot in the center of a large carved stone circle. Five points are carved from this circle and at the end sits a statue of the creature who represents their particular house. A liquid-like substance will drip from the creature's eyes, down the carved paths, and fills the circle. When a house has chosen a student the liquid filling the circle will glow with the appropriate colors. Sometimes more than one house will call for a student, in that case they are allowed to choose the one they feel better suited for.
Houses: Simurgh - (copper/teal) A peacock with the head of a dog and the claws of a lion – sometimes, however, also with a human face.* The students sorted into this house are often considered knowledgeable beyond their years, and tend to have benevolent temperaments. They enjoy the outdoors and collecting things. Many of them often develop into excellent herbologists or healers. Represented by the element of water.
Pegasus - (white/silver) A winged divine stallion usually depicted as pure white in color.* These students are extremely outgoing and energetic. They tend to be helpful to a fault, and make friends for life. While some people consider them to be a little over the top, they are very diligent in their work and leave no question unanswered. Many of the students sorted into this house become excellent crafters, be it wand making, book binding, architecture, etc… Represented by the element of air
Chimera - (orange/gold) Depicted as a lion, with the head of a goat arising from its back, and a tail that might end with a snake's head* These students radiate an air of strength, are swift on their feet, or can be conversely indecisive. They will portray a certain face to the world but keep their real feelings a secret except to their very closest of friends. Students sorted into this house often make excellent duelists though many prefer to have more than one specialization. Represented by the element of fire.
Manticore - (red/black) Has the body of a lion, a human head with three rows of sharp teeth (like a shark), and sometimes bat-like wings.* These students tend to be perfectionists, and are very blunt, but not entirely unkind. They do not care what other people think and prefer to work individually as opposed to in a group. They can be difficult to befriend but are fiercely loyal to the friends they do make. These students often develop into excellent potion makers, or curse breakers. Represented by the element of earth.
Ouroboros - (black/white) An ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail.* These students possess a very introspective personality. They can be overly analytical and like to take their time. They do not often perform well when rushed. Sometimes considered two-faced. Many of them develop into excellent alchemists. Represented by the elements of light and darkness.

Faye, Ilvermorny
The school I have created is in Greece, on an island uninhabited by muggles. The only thing on the island are the school, and a small village (similar to Hogsmeade) nearby. This school is divided into three houses with magical creatures as their symbol. The creatures used for houses are all creatures that are native to Greece.
The first house is Griffin. The griffin has the head, wings and claws of an eagle, and the hindquarters of a lion. The students in this house are usually cunning, brave, and sometimes quite ruthless. They are fiercely loyal to their small group of close friends. Within the house, there is great competition to be the best student. They spend a lot of time actually practicing magic, rather than reading books and worrying about theory. These students often have a dark sense of humor and tend to be friends with others from their house for the most part. Their common room is in a tower, and has a balcony that overlooks the courtyard within the school.
The second house is Hippocampus. This creature has the head of a horse, and the body of a fish. It inhabits the waters around the islands in Greece. Some say it resembles an oversized seahorse. The traits of the students in this house include playfulness, need for adventure, and general happiness. These students tend to throw the best parties, and make friends the fastest. They also tend to show an aptitude for water magic, water sports, and swimming. They spend lots of time at the beach, and their common room has a back door that leads to a beachside patio that many of the students spend the majority of their free time.
The third house is Wood Nymph. These creatures are similar to fairies and bowtruckles. Not much is known about these creatures but they are generally regarded as tree guardians, but some maintain that wood nymphs actually are the tree, rather than just guardians of the tree. Students in this house usually show an aptitude for herbology, are protective of their family and friends, and spend much time in the library, studying to increase their academic performance. This is the most serious-natured house at the school. Their common room is in a high tower that overlooks the forest that borders the school.

Evalyn sat down, taking out her writing pad and quill to began to think about where and what type of creatures would make up her own school.
Deciding to model it after Hogwarts and Ilvermorny, there were going to be four houses based upon magical creatures and the school will be located in the Netherlands.
School Name: Van Althuis Institute of Magic
House Name Origin: Much like that of Ilvermorny, the houses were chosen based on the founding wizard and witches favorite creatures that the had encountered around the world.

A hippogriff has the head of a giant eagle and the body of a horse. Much like the creature, the students from this house are proud folk. The traits they hold are: confidence, dedication and self-criticism. Although the students from this house are confident in themselves, they also enjoy being critical of their own skills, in order to make themselves the best witch or wizard they can be. They are constantly striving to improve themselves and others they consider their friends.

A kneazle is a small cat-like creature, with flecked, speckled or spotted fur and outsized ears and a tail like that of a lion. The students from this house value intelligence, independence, and staying resolute in their beliefs. These students know who they are, and will stick to what they believe. They are not the type of person to be swayed easily, though they do not hold onto their beliefs when proof would tell them otherwise. They enjoy their independence and take pride in their abilities.

The Graphorn has a humped back that is grayish purple in color and two very long, sharp horns with four-thumbed feet. The students from this house can sometimes be aggressive, but they are also cunning and hard-working. Due to their hard-working nature, these students are often found to be fixated on tasks, which they will dedicate an incredible amount of time too. They can also be quite difficult to approach, as they become upset when interrupted by silly things. Students from the Graphorn House often will not associate with those from Crup house, as they find those students to be immature.

Lenore Addlebourne - Hogwarts

•Woodaven Hall is a castle located near Glencalry, Ireland and is nestled within a wooded forest surrounded by a mountain range on three sides. The school was named for the rose-like woodaven bushes that grow wildly on the grounds.
•There are four houses at Woodaven Hall which a young witch or wizard may join at the age of twelve and remain in throughout six years of education. These are Manticore House, Centaur House, Sphinx House and Wood Nymph House, with house colors being red, purple, orange and green in respective order. Rather than sorting by personality or character trait, Woodaven sorts students by their aptitude and passion for a certain branch of magic. Though students from all houses will take standardized classes together, each house is also required to take house-specific classes that focus on their branch.
•During the Sorting Ceremony, first year students are taken to a small clearing where they stand facing the four house groups who have gathered together into sections at the edge of the woods. To one side of the first years stands a doorway carved into a small but ancient tree. Each student passes through the doorway and shortly afterward will emerge from the woods behind the house group that he or she has been sorted into. Though no student has ever been gone for more than a few moments, some have reported wandering lost in the woods for nearly an hour before finally arriving back in the clearing to be welcomed by their housemates.
The Manticore House favors those who, like it's namesake, are bold and powerful. These students quickly learn the basics of combat and have the potential to become some of the wizarding world's greatest protectors. They hit hard and fast, thinking quickly in the heat of the moment.
The Centaur House is filled with those who, like the creatures themselves, ponder the mysteries of magic. This house produces diviners and seers and has given wizardkind some of its most renowned astronomers and astrologists. Centaur students live in a high tower with constant view of the heavens. It is rumored that at the founding of the school, the first Headmaster, as a sign of respect, trekked deep into the woods to ask the resident Centaur herd for permission to name one of the school houses after their race. After being given no clear answer by any one of the Centaur, who had begun discussing amongst themselves their own views on what the stars told of education, the Headmaster simply left and went on with the naming.
Students of the Sphinx House are practical and delve into the inner workings of magic, learning new ways to manipulate it and creating new spells. They are good with wand work and like the riddle-loving Sphinx, have a knack for subtlety. These students have the capability to advance the understanding and use of magic.
The students drawn to magic as a natural element are placed into the Wood Nymph house. This group is steadfast, drawing on the earth for support. As a Wood Nymph is part of the forest in which it dwells, these students are in a natural alignment with the physical magic in the earth. Their abilities and views makes them good intermediaries and healers.

Nadine Nyx - Ilvermorney
My school is one that focuses on elemental magic and its location wouldn't be fixed, but rather wandering so that the students could take tap into the powers of all the surrounding elements at different times, depending on where the school happened to be at that moment.
The 4 houses would be embodiments of the 4 main elements and their mascots would be representative creatures that dwell in or near that particular element.
House Elephantidae - This is the earth house. Members would possess an affinity for earth-aligned magic. Traits include a calm, centered personality and a desire to maintain order and stability. Positives are remaining clearheaded under pressure and a talent for maintaining balance both internally and interpersonally. Negatives are difficulty relating to particularly strong emotions and a lack of spontaneity.
House Falconidae- The air house would contain wizards that excel in air-aligned magic. Traits include a desire for frequent, varying activity or movement and the ability to divide their attention amongst several tasks at the same time. Positives are quickness to adapt to new situations and flexibility when collaborating with peers. Negatives are a difficulty in following through with plans and projects and somewhat easily distracted.
House Mysticeti- Water-aligned magicians would be sorted into this house. Traits include high levels of empathy and the desire to communicate with others, as well as a penchant for seeking harmony both in the environment and socially. Positives are a talent for healing magic and difficulty to anger. Negatives include keeping important matters to themselves to avoid conflicts and difficulty with over internalizing every day matters to the point that it becomes a detriment.
House Formicidae- This is the fire house. It is associated with talent in fire-aligned magic. Wizards of this house have a natural desire for organization and mobilization as a team. They work best in groups and thrive on routine. Positive traits are a keen sense of motivation and a tendency to be proactive in most situations. Negatives include a very quick temper and a critical nature that is directed both internally and externally.
During the sorting ceremony, the student stands before an ancient mirror that was formed by a wizard who was equally talented in all 4 elements. When the student looks into the mirror, the element that best reflects the nature of the student appears in place of the student's reflection and that determines the house of the student. There are times when more than one element appears in the mirror and in those cases, the student may choose which house they join, but the student often finds his or her magic is altered somewhat by the other element(s) that appear in the reflection. A wizard whose reflection shows both water and air, for instance, may have a particular talent for weather spells or may find that his or her magic is less predictable in certain weather conditions. Additionally, wizards in this school have the opportunity to learn magic influenced by all of the elements. Their house assignment speaks for what they are most naturally drawn to or talented in, but that doesn't bar them from learning other elemental forms of magic.

The name of the school is Seven Technologies University. As the name suggests there are actually seven different schools in the system. When being accepted into the University you are technically accepted into all of the schools within the system. However, each student is sorted into one of the seven schools based on their aptitude for learning in specific subjects and personality traits. Each of the magical schools includes a heavy course load in magical related fields studies. Each of the non-magical schools is heavily geared towards academics and trade skills.

Seondeok Masul Haggyo is located in a magically protected valley on a volcanic island in the present-day waters of South Korea. The students there are particularly interested in astronomy, Asian astrology, and reading the future using the celestial heavens. They study from observatory towers located on the hills and mountains that surround their castle. The young witches and wizards dress in silk hanboks. It doesn't get too cold in general, due to the limited cloud cover which makes the island an excellent place for stargazing. The colors of their cloaks signify their year of mastery and their clasps denote their houses.
There are three houses with mascots that come from the largest constellations in the night sky. [li]Hydra - The Sea Serpent - Yellow gold moon clasps: Students that belong to Hydra House are known for their powerful intellect. They pride themselves on their intelligence and ingenuity. Hydras persevere and consider themselves survivors, like the many-headed creature from which their house takes its mascot. [li]Virgo - The Maiden - Rose gold moon clasps: Virgo students are marked by their strength of character. They value integrity, honor, justice, truth, and empathy. Like their mascot Virgos are innocent and pure of heart, but by no means are they naive. [li]Ursa - The Big Bear - White gold moon clasps: Ursas set themselves apart through their superior physicality. They are very strong and train to maintain their fitness and health. Like mother bears, Ursas are particularly protective of others who need defending.
First years are eleven or turn eleven during the school year. They wear black silk wraps scattered with silver stars to denote their new positions at school. First years are treated with special kindness and respect as a gesture of welcome.
Beginner (12-13) students wear blue cloaks.
Intermediate (14-15) students wear purple cloaks.
Advanced (16-17) students wear white cloaks.
The first paragraph is something I already wrote for the Alternative Education HA Challenge. Is it ok to use it here or should I rewrite it? Thanks!

Icarus Fairchild - Hogwarts
The Elysian Academy is located in a remote forest in Greece. It has the appearance of an abandoned cottage and is enchanted to give muggles who stumble across it a foreboding feeling and a strong desire to leave it alone. However, when you walk into the cottage, you find yourself in a great castle, similar in structure to Hogwarts. The sorting ceremony involves entering a room with five stone statue along the far wall. The student stands in the center of the room, and after some time the statue which represents their corresponding house will come to life, approach them, and bow.
The houses themselves are as follows:
Dryad (green and gold) – House Dryad is comprised of people who are serene, down to earth, empathic, and perceptive. They are highly intuitive and tend to be selfless. They are protectors and their will is to serve the highest good. They strive to make the world a better place and want to use their caring nature to help others. Those in the Dryad house make excellent healers, herbologists, and magizoologists.
Siren (Turquoise and silver) – The Siren House is full of charismatic and calculating people. They know what they want and they will use any means to achieve it. They are excellent leaders due to their charming and determined nature. They can be manipulative, but while this is not necessarily a positive trait, it can be used for good and to lead people onto paths that will benefit their own self growth. Those in the Siren house often go into politics, but will excel wherever their ambition leads them, especially in people oriented careers.
Satyr (Purple and Bronze) – House Satyr tends to hold those who, above all else, want to have a good time. This house is full of jokesters, tricksters, and partiers. These people value fun and levity and do what they can to enjoy their lives to the fullest. They have a hard time being serious and, upon encountering a stick-in-the-mud type of person, make it their goal to get them to loosen up. Boredom is their worst enemy. House Satyr students tend to take careers in entertainment and fields that offer them the opportunity for adventure and travel.
Centaur (Navy and White) – House Centaur is home to those who have a desire to learn about themselves and the world around them. Those in this house are naturally inquisitive. They are fascinated by how things work and why they are a certain way. They also tend to have a connection to the spiritual, excelling in divination and similar subjects. Centaur students strive for knowledge, balance, and self-actualization. Likely career paths include astronomers, astrologists, scholars, and professors.
Minotaur (Red and charcoal) – House Minotaur is for those who are bold, stubborn and fierce. They are quick to anger and do not back down. Minotaur students are passionate and driven. They push through any obstacle in their path with sheer force of will. They can be rather single-minded in focus, but that just makes them all the more likely to achieve their goals. Minotaur students tend to have the most diverse career pool. While their interests are varied from person to person, once they find their passion, they are set on that path for life.
